sittin' at a bar

sittin' at a bar

The World Food Festival was a couple weekends ago in Des Moines, Iowa. I went on the Saturday of the festival and had an absolute blast. All of the people I was with said that they knew I was loving it because I had a big shit-eating grin on my face the entire night.

Now, I don't know if the grin was due to the few beers I had while enjoying foods (mainly Indian) from around the world or because I had my camera with me- either way I was in the best mood I had been in a while.

I recently purchased a Canon 40D this summer (a decently respected Digital SLR camera) and I am having a great time playing with it. Photography is a hobby that I really got into over the past summer but have been interested in for about 4 years now.

I also realized something when I was out that night. Carrying around a camera is a great conversation starter (especially if you are holding one that weighs 3 lbs). I was asked questions like "So you are a photographer, huh?" and "What newspaper do you work for?" It was very entertaining for me to answer these inquiries but to also meet some nice people.

Having people that you would otherwise never talk to come up to you is an awesome thing. I think that is mainly because it is so fun to meet and talk to random people.

This is a photo I took that night while sitting at a bar where the festival was. If you click on the link it will take you to my Flickr photostream where I upload other pictures.

A big WHAT UP to Andy Drish.
